The Verdikt’s Top Five – Christian Bale
Here at TR, we decided to create a hit list of our top five movies for our favorite actors/directors – if you’re a fan too, tell us your opinions in the comments!
Today, we’ll talk about five of our favourite movies from Christian Bale, who I believe is one of the most interesting and versatile actors today.[divider]
A magnificient and complex story from the renowned director Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale proves his worth in showing how magic and illusion can ultimately be misused and can cause harm rather than any good. Along with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale tries to use his obsession of magic to bring down his partner, and so begins the cat-and-mouse game until one succeeds and one fails.
Playing one of the most maniacal yet absurdly funny characters, Bale really does know how to bring the killer effect out of his character. His quirky selfnarration proves his character’s state-of-mind and pretty much justifies all the gore and the bloodbath he creates throughout the entire movie. As much as he proves himself to be a perfect embodiment of Hercules, his inner state of mind crumbles, but he tries to ensure that he never exposes that to the people he encounters. With such a scary yet straight-face, Bale proves to be one of the most amazing actors in our lifetime.[divider]
An inspirational story about two brothers; one who is a retired legend and the other an up-and-coming boxer, Bale proves his worth in this rare boxing movie which focuses more on the emotional aspects and conflicts between the two characters. Bale shows his true aggressive raw boxing nature not just by the way he acts, but by his physique, which just shows the 110% Bale puts in his characters.
Many people have argued that the original Batman (played by Michael Keaton) was much better. However, with a new concept, Christopher Nolan couldn’t have picked a more convincing actor than Christian Bale. With a dark and gloomy atmosphere, Bale has effectively proven that he is the true ultimate Dark Knight as well as being the elusive, yet charmingly mysterious Bruce Wayne with a horrifying past. Again, Bale shows his commitment to his characters as he built a lot of muscle mass after one of his most shocking roles in the Machinist (see below.) Bale has also played Batman in The Dark Knight (2008) and will play the character one last time in The Dark Knight Rises (2012).[divider]
If you’ve not seen this movie, you’ll be up for a surprise. Christian Bale reported that he dropped to a mere 110 pounds for his role, losing all his muscle gains just to portray the depressing, anorexic Trevor. Bale has been known to go to various extremes to show that he really is one of the most versatile actors. This movie is definitely not for the faint-hearted; in fact, it has a lot of plot twists that will surprise you and keep you watching until the end. With such a mesmerizing performance, Bale keeps a disturbing yet impactful image into the viewer’s mind on his character’s state of mind. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, you must see this![divider]
